KC Community Survey Wave 1: Interactive Codebook

The Kansas City Community Survey (KCCS) is the city's first systematic effort to measure how residents experience trust, safety, connection, and collective action. Wave 1 reached 386 residents across 40 neighborhoods, including 10 high-violence areas where prior surveys barely reached. It was adapted from the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN) and administered by trained community interviewers in their own neighborhoods.

Below is the full codebook: every question, every response category, with Wave 1 frequencies and percentages. Use the search to filter by question number, topic, or response.

For researchers: the full technical report and methodology, prepared by consultants Dr.'s Jacob Day and Jonathan Brauer, is available here →
